Service Day

On Community Service Day, Oct. 26, a 6th-grade class worked on preparations for World Diabetes Day. Guest speakers Virginia and Aberdeen Morrow talked to the students about diabetes, what it’s like to have, and the importance of World Diabetes Day. The students made hundreds of blue ribbons!

Virginia, a fourth grader at Excelsior Elementary with Type 1 diabetes, described the endless pokes, injections, and planning diabetes requires. While the students imagined that reality, their teacher reminded them that they may be a part of unlocking the mystery, discovering a cure. So people like Virginia won’t have wear insulin pumps anymore.

One student shared that her grandmother has Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes touches so many families in our community and worldwide.
